Cleburne Triathlon

For my 3rd sprint tri of the season - I headed south to Cleburne to compete in the 2nd annual Cleburne Ironhouse. I got there early with plenty of time to get my bike racked and ready to go. I'll admit to standing there for a few minutes trying to figure out which way my bike should be knowing that the "majority of the bike" should be on a specific side...well, my bike wasn't racked for 10 minutes and I heard them do a call out to 119 to re-rack...crap - the good news is that I think I got it down now - guess we'll see at the next one.

The day was turning out great - ran into an old friend and we made out way up to the pool. Double crap - no one told me it was an outside pool...I'm going to freeze my tail off and as I dipped my goggles into the water I realized it was a heated outdoor pool - whew, lucky for them...heeeheee.It was an easy swim and I was only hit once. I let one guy pass me (but then I passed him because he was walking, yup - walking in a pool) The swim was over and I was on my way to the bike.
The bike was hard...really hard. It might have been the "texas hills" or it might have been the fact that I hadn't been on a bike since my tri on April 26th...either way -it was a beautiful ride but I couldn't wait to be done and onto the run.

Back through transition and I was onto the run an easy down and back 5K. I started cramping early but knew that as long as I didn't walk - I would be fine with whatever time I pulled out. The good news for me is that running is my strongest piece of this whole tri thing and I knew I'd be done in no time. The end came much faster then I expected and I finished in 1.27.29.

This was actually my 2nd Ironhead Race Productions race of the season and they really know how to put on a great race. There was plenty of pizza and bananas to go around - AND - I even picked up a nice white rail road nail for placing 3rd in my age group.

Up next - the metroplex sprint tri and my first open water swim - YIKES!
